Main and Extraordinary Meridians

The main meridians form the essential energy system within the horse’s body.

They connect internal organs with muscles, tendons, and the mind, ensuring the smooth flow of Qi, the vital life energy. These twelve primary meridians regulate physical and emotional functions, creating balance and harmony throughout the body.

The extraordinary meridians, also known as the curious or extraordinary vessels, act as energy reservoirs and regulators. They balance excesses or deficiencies and interconnect the main meridians to correct deeper energetic disturbances. Together, they form a finely tuned network that harmonizes body, mind, and energy – a core foundation of equine acupuncture.
