ST39 is located on the lateral side of the hind limb, distal to ST37, approximately 3 cun below, between the m. extensor digitorum lateralis and m. tibialis cranialis.
ST39 is the lower He-Sea point of the small intestine and is used to treat intestinal atony, colic, and diarrhea. It regulates Qi circulation in the lower burner.
For ST39, be aware of the proximity to sensitive structures such as tendons and vessels. Proper needling technique is essential to avoid complications.
