Safety

ST16 should be treated with care, as the area is sensitive and important structures such as the lungs and major blood vessels are nearby.

Medical information

ST16 is located on the line between the shoulder joint and the elbow, at the level of the fourth intercostal space, approximately 2-3 cm below the triceps brachii muscle.

ST16 is used to treat thoracic pain, cough, dyspnea, and local muscle tension. According to TCM, it influences the Lung and chest Qi.

Caution is required when needling ST16: proximity to the lungs and major vessels increases the risk of pneumothorax or hematoma. Needle superficially and use sterile technique.
