Location

SP20 is located on the lateral thoracic wall, approximately at the level of the 3rd intercostal space, in line with the middle of the chest.

Functions

SP20 may help strengthen the lungs, resolve phlegm, and support the immune system. It is rarely used and mainly for specific indications.

SP20 is located on the line between SP17 and SP21, in the 3rd intercostal space, approximately at the level of the mid-thorax, ventral to the serratus ventralis muscle.

SP20 is used to tonify the lung and spleen, treat cough, dyspnea, and thoracic pain. It may also provide supportive therapy in chronic respiratory conditions.

Caution is advised when needling SP20 due to its proximity to the pleura; superficial insertion is recommended. Contraindicated in horses with thoracic issues or suspected rib fractures.
