Kidney 4 (KI4), also known as Dazhong, is an important acupuncture point on the horse’s hind limb and is often used to support kidney function.

Location
KI4 is located on the hind limb, just below the hock, on the inside of the tendon.
Functions
KI4 is used to strengthen kidney energy, for lameness, and to support the hindquarters.

Treatment of this point should only be performed by experienced individuals, as improper use may cause discomfort.
Medical information
KI4 is located distal to the medial malleolus, in the depression between the medial calcaneal ligament and the insertion of the Achilles tendon.
KI4 tonifies kidney Qi, calms the mind, and is used for chronic hindlimb weakness, anxiety, and disorders of water metabolism.
Caution is required with deep needling to avoid damaging vessels or nerves. Strict aseptic technique is mandatory.
