Medical information

TH16 is located in the depression dorsal and slightly caudal to the angle of the jaw, ventral to the wing of the atlas, at the level of the insertion of the sternocephalicus muscle. Palpation of anatomical landmarks is essential.

TH16 is used for treating disorders of the head and neck, especially laryngeal issues, dysphagia, local pain, and for harmonizing Qi flow in the upper Jiao.

The proximity to the jugular vein, accessory nerve, and other sensitive structures requires precise needling technique and a steady hand. If anatomical knowledge is uncertain, treatment should be avoided.
