Location

Bl61 is located just below the outer hock bone (lateral malleolus) on the lateral calcaneus of the hind limb.

This point should be used with caution, especially in horses with acute injuries or swelling around the hock.

Medical information

Bl61 is located distal and slightly caudal to the lateral malleolus on the lateral calcaneus, in a small depression between the bone and adjacent soft tissues.

Bl61 is used to treat lameness, local pain, tension, and to support mobility of the hock and hindquarters.

In horses with local trauma, infection, or significant swelling at the lateral calcaneus, Bl61 should not be used or only with particular caution.
