Yang Heel 3 – Fuyang, BL59

Yang Qiao 3 – Fuyang (BL59) is an acupuncture point on the horse’s hind limb, commonly used to support mobility and relieve pain.

Location

BL59 is located on the lateral hind limb, about 3 cun above BL60, between the Achilles tendon and the lateral border of the calcaneus.

Functions

Fuyang is traditionally used to relieve pain in the back and hindquarters and to promote mobility.

BL59 is located on the lateral hind limb, 3 cun proximal to BL60, in a depression between the Achilles tendon and the lateral border of the tuber calcanei.

BL59 is used to treat lumbago, sciatica, weakness and pain of the hindquarters, and to activate the Yang Qiao Mai.

When needling BL59, be aware of the proximity to tendons and sensitive structures. Aseptic technique is essential.
