Location

LIV4 is located on the inside of the hock, just above the medial malleolus.

Medical information

LIV4 is located distal and slightly cranial to the medial malleolus of the tibia, in a depression between the tendon of the cranial tibial muscle and the medial collateral ligament.

LIV4 regulates liver Qi, clears heat and wind, promotes local circulation, and is used for lameness, edema, and stagnation in the distal hind limb.

LIV4 should be treated with caution, as deep needling near tendons and vessels carries risks. Strict aseptic technique is essential.
